Spain Songs: 50 Glass Bottles
Inspiration in the City of Cats

Poppy Blake
The song I’d like to share this week is called 50 Glass Bottles. It is a song of love and departure. It was written in reflection of friendships made over the university experience. The morning two of my best college friends left town and moved to Seattle in an overstuffed sedan was one of the saddest I can remember. This song was inspired by that. Hope you enjoy!
Writing in Spain, I often remembered that close circle of friends and wonder: Did we make the right choice by breaking the fellowship? Would it even be realistic to all live together for the rest of our lives? It was a huge transitional time for us all. I am happy to have written 50 Glass Bottles as a comemorance of that.
As far as style goes, 50 Glass Bottles continues the 100% pop format that marked so much of my song writing at that time. I am such a sucker for a good melody.
Linds and I lived in Spain during the summer of 2005 working as English tutors and general conversationalists (yes, you can get paid for that). During that time, I personally grew leaps and bounds as a songwriter. You can read all about my artistic journey and influences in my Reflections of an Artistic Slacker post. In our humble Madrid apartment living with 2 other American travelers, I wrote a series of 7 songs that I’m really proud of. I’d like to share them with you.
Let me know what you think!

Your music is Rockin’ Love IT a lot. Just went to Spain in Oct. First time abroad by myself. Best experience in the world.
Keep ‘em coming!

Thank you! I don’t know what cities you visited, but for me, Madrid is the ultimate best. Spain just clicks with some people. It is a great mix of affordability, fun and absolutely painless travel. Check out my other ‘travel tune’, My Situation. If you like this one, you’ll adore, that one.
Thanks for listening and reading!
